I want to replace the ugly lemon-yellow linoleum in my laundry room. When I went to Lowes I found some awesome ceramic tile that were 12" x 12". My room is 14' 4" x 7'6". I need to purchase an additional 10% for breakage. How many tiles do I need?
The tiles were done this weekend. It looks great! I bought a gross of tiles, which is 12 boxes of 12 tiles. I used 125 tiles and broke a few. Thanks for the comments! There will be more math problems since there are more rooms to renovate!
One day, at my orthodontist's office, there was a guessing jar in the shape of a cylinder, and it was filled with candy. My answer wasn't exactly a GUESS, though, more like a math problem. Instead, I measured the volume of it based on the candies inside it (ex. the height was about 12 candies). I didn't have time to finish, and I don't think I even got it right, but I thought that I'd just share it with you as a day in my math life. P.S. this was written by Sydney in sixth grade advanced math. Bye for now!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I have NO idea if I'm going to get this right, but I hope I do. First, I took the area of the room, which was 15,480 square inches and divided it by the area of one tlie, which was 144 square inches. I got 107.5. Since Ms.Swider needed an additional 10% for breakage, I divided that by 9 and I got 10.94, 4 being continued. Then I multiplied that by 10 to include the extra 10% and got 109.4 (rounded up is 110) tiles. If that's not the right answer then I think it's 118.25 tiles (rounded up is 119). anyway, I think I spent too much time on this but at least I tried! Have fun replacing your kitchen floor Ms.Swider!
ReplyDeleteSorry for not posting my name, but that last comment was by Sydney! See you later!
